SEC Buddhist Ceremony

At 7am, on this fresh and beautiful morning on the 5th of October, Khun Ajarn Taworn kindly came to our office to lead the blessing and good luck ceremony. All the staff gathered together in spite of the early morning hours, so as to attend the ceremony which was held: “At the right moment in the right place.” as said the ceremony leader. All the staff had helped until late the night before to make the ceremony a real success. Helping to prepare the three coloured cloth, green, blue and yellow; this was then later donated to and wrapped around the spirit house the following morning.

Before starting the donations to the Spirit House some strings were strung around the various departments inside the office which is seen as a kind of “lucky charm” to bring good luck and fortune to the company and its staff; and then the ceremony started. We then wrapped the coloured cloth around the spirit house and started to donate the various foods which had been prepared the previous evening.

asked to take part in the ceremony by the leader who began his religious speech. Everyone was given incense and we were able to witness our colleagues praying, meditating and making wishes. Then everyone in turn, got close to the Buddhist shrine to place their incense and make a donation, which consisted of mainly exotic
fruits. Holding this event was a way for foreigners to better know the culture of their work place, whilst the Thai staff were kept busy explaining the meaning of the speech to their foreign colleagues throughout the ceremony.

It was a great show of respect for us to attend this event keeping in mind 90% of Thai people are Buddhist. Our Chief Executive Officer, Khun Heng really enjoyed it and told us these kinds of deeds are the key to the well functioning of our company and that making wishes
at this particular moment would bring us happiness and success. Even some of our staff’s family attended the ceremony which was proof of its importance to us.

After some applause and fireworks, it was now time to go back to work, remembering all day long, the joys and cheers of the ceremony. The day could not have begun better.
